The Community Action Agency is Anne Arundel County’s Office of Home Energy Programs Local Home Energy Program Office for Anne Arundel County residents. Acting as the local office for Maryland’s Office of Home Energy Programs, the Energy Assistance program helps income‑eligible Anne Arundel County households manage heating and electricity costs.

 

Office of Home Energy Programs

The Office of Home Energy Programs provides bill assistance to low-income households in Anne Arundel County to make their energy costs more affordable and to help with the prevention of loss and restoration of home energy services. Residents can apply July through June each year. Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) provides assistance with home heating bills.

Energy Assistance Program Services

  • Maryland Energy Assistance Program
    Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) assists with home heating bills. Payments are made directly to utility companies to provide relief to customers.
  • Electric Universal Service Program
    Electric Universal Service Program (EUSP) provides financial assistance with current and past-due electric and gas bills. Customers will also receive referrals for energy efficiency measures to reduce future electric bills.
  • Utility Service Protection Program
    Utility Service Protection Program (USPP) allows MEAP eligible households to enter into a year-round, even monthly payment program with their utility company. The monthly payments are determined using the estimated cost of the customer’s average utility usage minus the MEAP benefit.
  • Arrearage Retirement Assistance helps customers with large past due electric and/or gas bills. Eligible households may receive up to $2,000 towards the bill.
