Berneitha K. McNair serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Anne Arundel County Community Action Agency, Inc. (AACCAA), the designated Community Action Agency for Anne Arundel County, Maryland, where she provides strategic leadership to advance the agency's mission of empowering individuals, strengthening families, and building stronger communities.
She brings more than 30 years of executive experience in the nonprofit sector and the national Community Action network. She has led multi-million-dollar Community Action Agencies, managing complex operations, multisite programs, and staff across a seven-county service area, with deep expertise in strategic planning, financial management, organizational development, compliance, resource development, and board governance.
McNair began her Community Action career with Pearl River Valley Opportunity, Inc. (PRVO), the largest Community Action Agency in Mississippi, where she served in several leadership roles and developed a lifelong commitment to combating poverty and expanding opportunity for families in some of the state's most economically challenged communities. Her work at PRVO included securing a $12.7 million award for workforce housing as part of the agency's Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts.
She later served as Executive Director of the Northeast Florida Community Action Agency (NFCAA), a seven-county agency. Under her leadership, NFCAA earned multiple Agency of the Year awards from the Florida Association for Community Action (FACA), which also honored her with its Visionary Leader Award for innovation, leadership, and contributions to the Community Action network.
Before joining AACCAA, McNair founded and led Berneitha McNair Consulting, partnering with Community Action Agencies, nonprofits, executives, and boards of directors nationwide. Her firm delivered executive coaching, strategic planning, board development, financial management consulting, compliance support, and organizational assessments to agencies in 42 states. That work strengthened governance, improved performance, and positioned client agencies for long-term sustainability.
McNair is a nationally recognized authority on Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Organizational Standards, Results Oriented Management and Accountability (ROMA), grants management, and organizational capacity building. She has helped organizations secure millions of dollars in public and private funding across her career. She speaks nationally and is the author of Grant Writing That Works: Confessions of a Nonprofit Chief Executive and D.O.P.E. Leadership: Success Is in the Style.
She holds a Master's degree in Communication from the University of Southern Mississippi and is a graduate of the Northeast Florida Leadership Academy. She is committed to lifelong learning and to developing strong leaders and organizations that create lasting community impact.
